Coding Specialist
Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Coding Specialist is responsible for performing the following duties in an efficient and effective manner. ETSU Health is a multi-specialty medical group, with coding positions available for various specialty offices. Position is a hybrid position, being able to work 2 days a week from home, after successful completion of a 90-day introductory period.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Reviews the medical records, determines appropriate services to be coded (ICD-10-CM, CPT, and/or HCPCS) for each billing record and applies.
- If working in the Primary Care offices, reviews documentation for diagnosis coding specificity for Hierarchical Condition Category Coding (HCC Coding).
- Organizes work for accuracy and effectiveness to ensure compliance of proper billing and coding procedures of third-party carriers and to ensure complete and accurate reimbursements.
- Reports any concerns/problems regarding billing and makes recommendations to Administrator for solutions.
- Stays current with changes in coding guidelines.
- Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
CPC recommended or five years coding experience/auditing from medical record documentation.
