Dr. Marchessault is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with an additional certification in hand surgery.  He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Massachusetts and received his M.D. degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  He moved to Johnson City in 2012 after he finished his 28-year military career, including combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan.  

Dr. Marchessault trained orthopaedic residents while working in private practice in Kingsport from 2012 until he joined the Johnson City Medical Center in 2022.  During that time, he went to Milot, Haiti, on an annual medical mission trip to perform general orthopaedic and hand surgery.  He has written and published medical journal articles on thumb arthritis, a new surgical technique to treat finger joints affected by arthritis, and a book chapter on severely injured hands.  

Dr. Marchessault joined Quillen College of Medicine's faculty in 2023 as associate professor of surgery.  His professional interests include thumb arthritis, Dupuytren’s disease, and especially medical student and orthopaedic resident education.  When away from work, you can often find him kayaking on Boone Lake or running on the VA campus.
