Watch Dr. Simberloff's Provider Interview
Dr. Tander Simberloff believes in the power of listening and building strong relationships with her patients. She tries to get to know her patients beyond their medical concerns and wants to hear about who they are as people so that she can do her utmost to safely tailor their medical care to their individual needs and priorities. Compassionate care is at the core of her approach. She strives to treat every patient as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. Her goal is to provide care that empowers her patients to live fulfilling lives according to their values.
Dr. Simberloff’s fascination with the details and inner workings of complex systems is what sparked her love for the biological sciences. But what truly solidified her path to medicine was witnessing the journey of a family member with a chronic terminal disease. That experience showed Dr. Simberloff how meaningful it is to build relationships and rapport with patients. While medical advances are incredible, there won’t always be a cure or a fix. Providers can always stand by their patients, supporting them through their toughest health challenges with compassion and presence.
She believes the Hospice and Palliative Medicine field has a place in treating patients at all stages of their healthcare journey. Dr. Simberloff is eager to incorporate its teachings into her practice as an internist, as well as a subspecialty physician.
Having been raised in Knoxville, East Tennessee has always been home to her. During her time in medical school at ETSU’s Quillen College of Medicine, Dr. Simberloff fell in love with the Tri-Cities and the incomparable beauty of these mountains. The sense of community here, paired with the mission to serve rural populations, makes this the perfect place for Dr. Simberloff to continue her career in medicine.
