Dr. Koutsouvelis is dedicated to putting his patients' well-being first. He listens attentively and provides compassionate care in hopes of helping patients reach a higher quality of life. His approach to medicine centers on a few foundational aspects: sleep, recovery, nutrition and exercise/movement. Dr. Koutsouvelis believes that by maintaining a healthy balance in these areas, patients can unlock their full potential for well-being.
The journey to becoming a doctor wasn’t an overnight decision for Dr. Robert Koutsouvelis. It began back in middle school when he excelled in science and math. This led him to take advanced science courses in high school and eventually pursue a degree in life sciences during undergrad. While studying at university, a severe knee injury introduced him to the patient experience firsthand, meeting doctors across multiple specialties—from ER to Family Medicine to Orthopedic Surgeons. Through this experience, he realized he could see himself as a physician providing quality care in a more efficient and timely manner.
Originally from Canada, Dr. Koutsouvelis is an avid hockey fan, which he credits for his kind but firm approach. Dr. Koutsouvelis’ love for the outdoors brought him to our region. He enjoys hiking, fishing and camping. He was drawn to stay on as faculty during his residency at ETSU Health Family Medicine Johnson City due to the supportive atmosphere of the clinic. He values the collaborative, team-based approach to patient care as well as the encouragement and warmth of the senior faculty.
